I know I haven’t posted much lately; I’ve been preoccupied with work, sickness (which lasted around 3 weeks), a lovely boyfriend who I’m getting to know better and better every day, and when none of those are involved–sleep. So this month I’m going to try to get back on track with the blog, and hopefully also with making some drawings and (gasp!) photographs in the next month or so. With that said…

Sometimes my students’ abilities truly truly amaze me. After looking at Matisse’s 1912 oil painting “Goldfish,” and continuing a discussion about color, the 1st and 2nd graders got back into painting about a week and a half ago when we set up a really simple still life in the art room (which also had a goldfish)… Below are some of the beautiful results…

or maybe i should call this “hachiko crossing, shibuya,” the busiest street crossing in the world,

i’ll post some japan snapshots (and real film pics) soon…

This is by the ancient Persian poet, Hafiz. I’m dedicating it to WB.
I’m off to Tokyo today, back in two weeks, and so probably won’t post for a little while…

Beautiful Hands

This is the kind of friend
you are–

Without making me realize

My soul’s anguished history,

You slip into my house at night ,

And while I am sleeping,

You silently carry off

All my suffering and sordid past

In Your beautiful
Hands
